The summary of the passing year is always among my favorite posts to write (although I’m sure it’s interesting to me only). This time, however, I feel more apathetic and this post won’t be as long and detailed as my typical year roundups (that you can find here: 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012).
2017 was an OK year. It was so much better than 2016 on most of the levels: there were no major dramas around me, my health got better, work was less stressful. However there were also no major successes, things were just fine and kind of boring for most of the time. But after a bad year, such as 2016 was, I think it’s good to have a calmer few months and I don’t want to complain or sound disappointed because I’m not. I’ve just realized that I kind of wasted 2017 – which actually gives me more motivation for 2018!
Travel
Travel-wise it was a good year, again! I’ve spent 121 days travelling, 1/3 of the year, while working full time! Always when I count how much I traveled I’m surprised it’s even possible but apparently it is!
I mostly returned to well known places that I adore but there were also two new countries on my list, those I’ve never thought I would visit! In October I went for a quick holidays to New Zealand and now I know why so many people think it’s the most beautiful place on Earth as the views really were mind-blowing! On my way back I had one day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and that was enough to pick up my interests in South-East Asia. My travels in 2017 looked like this:
- January: Kazimierz Dolny, Białystok (Poland), Budapest (Hungary), Sicily, Bergamo (Italy) – 10 days
- February: Prague (Czech Republic), Poznań (Poland) – 5 days
- March: Prague (Czech Republic), Berlin (Germany), Bosnia and Herzegovina – 13 days
- April: Cieszyn (Poland), Yerevan (Armenia), Tbilisi (Georgia), Bratislava (Slovakia), Romania – 14 days
- May: Montenegro, Fronołów (Poland), Bosnia and Herzegovina – 12 days
- June: Wrocław (Poland), Lviv (Ukraine), Zilina (Slovakia), Cieszyn (Poland), Olomouc (Czech Republic), Kraków (Poland), Liberec (Czech Republic) – 14 days
- July: Vienna (Austria) – 3 days
- August: Hannover (Germany), Kyiv, Chernobyl (Ukraine), Cieszyn (Poland), Brno (Czech Republic) – 9 days
- September: Lviv (Ukraine), Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia – 12 days
- October: Berlin, Wittenberg (Germany), Croatia, New Zealand – 18 days
- November: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Zagreb (Croatia), Cyprus – 5 days
- December: Slovakia, Kyiv (Ukraine) – 6 days
Life
From the non-travel related things it was a rather boring year. I think System of a Down’s (aka my all time favorite band) concert in Cracow was the best event but even this wasn’t as good as their concert I was at in Yerevan, Armenia almost 3 years ago.
Work was lots of fun, as always – it is seriously impossible to have a boring day there! That’s one of the things I’m really happy about – I don’t have a problem waking up in the morning and going to work as I have great workmates and I like what I’m doing (this year I felt even more confident that I’m good at it).
2017 was again a year of amazing friends around. Some of the friendships might be gone (and that’s always the hardest thing for me to deal with) but at the same time couple of old friends are back in my life, some new appeared too and my relations with many people got much stronger. But I must admit I’ve been a lousy friend at some point too and kind of neglected few people, I can’t even explain why. Fortunately now I’m back on the track :)
Blog
It was also a good blogging year. Again I co-organized the biggest meeting of Polish travel bloggers in Cieszyn, I also helped some of you with planning your trips around Central Europe and the Balkans. In summer I celebrated 5 years of blogging and I’m still more than grateful for all of you being here with me!
The blog has been quiet in last few weeks and it’s my fault. During my trip to New Zealand I took blogging things easy and just enjoyed the place and its amazing nature. Afterwards it was so difficult for me to return to blogging in the full swing, I guess I really needed a break after all these years. Now I have all the energy back and I’m more than ready to kick 2018 off with some more posts from my recent trips that hopefully will inspire / help you with your travels too!
Plans and hopes for 2018
I started 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine and spend the first day of the year travelling back home (it was a long journey, via Lublin) – if the whole year will be like that then I can expect many travel days. And I do have many plans!
If everything goes well I might end up the year with 8 new countries visited! I already have tickets to Israel, Central America, the Balkans, Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia and even if I’m already done with planning all my days off from work I’m sure I will end up with even more weekend trips!
But most of all I hope 2018 will be a good year! I know I need to work hard on my shape (which is still terrible after my health issues that started some 2 years ago and I so want to look like I did in 2013!) and I need to focus more on friends and other important people around me and give them more of my time – those are my main goals for this year!
2018 will also bring some changes in my life as in February I’m moving to another part of Warsaw! Right now I’m sharing a flat with two more people but soon I will live on my own which is kind of exciting too! I’m just so sad to leave my favorite part of the city – Praga Południe – and move back to the other side of the river. But no matter what things look optimistic and I’m looking forward what 2018 might bring!
I really wish you an exciting new year, full of joy, happiness, smile, amazing people, good food and unforgettable travels! And thank you again for being here with me!
