Best Cafes in Kosice, Slovakia

Last Updated on 31/12/2024 by kami

One of the most fascinating areas in Europe is the former Habsburg Empire, stretching from southern Poland and western Ukraine, through Central Europe, all the way to the central Balkans.

Among many things the cities in that region have in common, my favorite one is the amazing cafe culture. And Kosice, the second biggest city in Slovakia, is no exception here!

Kosice cafes

When you visit Kosice you will have a great choice of cafes to check. You can even spend the whole day or two, going from one cafe to another, and still, you wouldn’t have time for all of them (not to mention for all the other amazing things to do in Kosice).

That’s why I chose for you some of the best cafes in Kosice that you can’t miss. They are all located in the city center (most of them are on the main street – Hlavna or very near it) so you wouldn’t have to go far for your daily dose of coffee accompanied by the delicious cake.

So, without any further ado, here are some of the best Kosice cafes!

Slavia Cafe

One of the oldest cafes in Kosice, Slavia, is located in the very heart of the city, next to the beautiful State Theater. Founded in 1900, for decades the cafe has been attracting visitors with the beautiful art-nouveau decor.

This is the best place in Kosice for people-watching. Take the seat next to the beautiful giant window and you can see everything that is going on on the main street.

Besides delicious coffee, you can also get some sweet desserts or a proper meal here.

Address: Hlavná 63
Opening hours: Mon – Thu 07:00 – 23:00, Fri 07:00 – 01:00, Sat – Sun 08:00 – 23:00

Pogo Cafe

Central location near the Cathedral, interesting decor and a wide selection of drinks, cakes and more. I loved how neat this cafe is, with lots of flowers around, wooden walls, bikes, bright colors, and modern touch.

Cafe de Paris

A little touch of France in Kosice. You can get here the best desserts in the city, French macarons as well as salty Quiche. During my visit, there was a pretty impressive Eiffel Tower made of macarons.

Clematis Coffee & Tea Shop

This place has the most impressive menu I’ve seen in a long time, not only in Kosice. You can choose from around 60 kinds of coffee and 170 kinds of tea – it really wasn’t easy but the tea I got was very delicious. You can also buy here tea and coffee to make at home. The decor is a bit rustic but cozy, you can also see here the cross vault ceiling, typical for the old town in Kosice.

Address: Hlavná 45/84
Opening hours: Mon-Thu: 07:30 – 23:00, Fri 07:30 – 00:00, Sat: 09:00 – 00:00, Sun: 09:00 – 23:00

Šálka Kávy

Probably the coziest cafes in Kosice, with books, carpets, vintage furniture and tiny details that make this place so special. It’s one of those cafes where you could spend the whole day, reading, writing in the notebook or just daydreaming over a cup of coffee.

Address: Hviezdoslavova 1003/2
Opening hours: Mon-Thu: 07:00 – 22:00, Fri 07:00 – 00:00, Sat: 08:00 – 22:00, Sun: 08:00 – 20:00

Nico Caffe

This was probably my favorite cafe in Kosice. It’s located a bit away from the center but definitely worth a few minutes’ walks. The interior is modern, cool and a bit industrial, a nice combination of wood, brick, and concrete.

The coffee here is among the best ones you can drink in Kosice, with the beans delivered from the famous roastery The Barn in Berlin. There is also a nice selection of local craft beers and food.

Nico Caffe seems like the perfect place for the freelancers to work from as there are plenty of power sockets around.

Address: Kuzmányho 1181/1

If you have any other recommendations for cafes in Kosice please let me know in the comments below, I would love to check new places next time I’m in the city!

By the way, I’ve seen Halmi Space recommended by many people. I wanted to go there really badly too but unfortunately, this place has been closed and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be reopened anytime soon. But fortunately, there are so many other cafes in Kosice to choose from you won’t be disappointed!
