(Last Updated On: 26/11/2018)

It took me ages to finally visit Lviv! Even if Ukraine is the closest country from where I live it has never been on my path. I’ve been looking at Lviv pictures and longing to go as the city looked too beautiful to be true. Now I know it was worth to wait, Lviv didn’t disappoint!

Before we continue can I have few announcements, please?

  • I’ve included a few handy links of services and products I personally like and use so you can plan your own trip to Lviv too. They are at the end of the post and those are often affiliate links. This means I will get a small commission if you book / purchase anything though my links, at no extra costs for you.

Expectations based on Lviv pictures vs. reality

After visiting Kiev I finally managed to go to Lviv too… and I fell in love with it, big time. I could only imagine from Lviv pictures what to expect but the city stole my heart right away! It was so incredibly beautiful and had such a lovely, Eastern European charm. And all covered in snow it looked like from a fairy tale!

That’s why when I had the opportunity to return there in the middle of summer for a weekend with friends I didn’t hesitate too much. I really wanted to explore Lviv some more, wander the cobbled streets and feel the wonderful, bohemian atmosphere again.

And I happily realized that Lviv isn’t so beautiful and charming under the huge piles of snow only. In the summer time it’s different yet still amazing. After this visit it got a solid second or third place (still can’t decide about my feeling towards Tbilisi…) in my personal “favorite cities” list. And now I want to return there more and more often!

Lviv pictures, in winter and in summer

But if you ask me which Lviv I prefered, winter or summer one, I don’t think I can give you an answer. Both versions of the city were amazing, both took my breath away, both stole my heart. So below you can find pictures from various spots around Lviv, taken more or less in the same place yet 4 months apart. And you can do your own judgement of this beautiful Ukrainian city!

PLAN YOUR TRIP TO LVIV!

With over 15 years of independent travelling I’ve learnt which websites and services are the best when planning a trip. I always use and trust following websites:

Flights – I search for the best deals on either Momondo or SkyScanner. Both search numerous sites to find the best offers. I also really like the “everywhere” option when searching for the flights as it often gives me the inspiration, if not for this trip then for the next time.

Accommodation – I always book my accommodation thgrough Booking.com. They have really good deals (especially with their “Genius” program that you become a member of after few reservations) and in most of the cases, if you plans change, you can cancel the reservation without any extra costs. I also value them for a really good customer service that I had to use few times. As I’ve already mentioned I recommend staying at Hotel George, for its historical value and affordable prices. Click here to check the details and book the room! If you’re looking for other options – click here!

Insurance – I never travel without the insurance as you never know what might happen on the road (I’ve learnt my lesson). I can recommend World Nomads that offer the insurance dedicated to travelers just like you and me. Check the insurance options for your trip here!

Guide books – I do like reading a guide book before and during the trip. Depending on the destination I usually buy either Lonely Planet or Bradt. You can get your guidebooks for Ukraine here: Bradt / Lonely Planet

Day tours in Lviv – I do go for a day trips when I travel as often they are the most convenient way to see the place that save you time and money. I’ve already mentioned the rooftop tour but there are other interesting tours in Lviv too – click here to see the options and book your prefered tour!
