The area was the home of French Concession in Shanghai for almost 100 years – from 1849 to 1946. I set off to explore it after a really tough morning when all I wanted to do was staying inside and watching more and more episodes of „Grey’s Anatomy”. And I’m glad I did so as French Concession was a wonderful place to wander around. Full of quirky shops and galleries, small restaurants and quite an avant-garde clientele seemed like a perfect place for me on that day. The French Concession neighborhood finally didn’t look like yet another China Town with the same patterns everywhere. It had more of a Western feel yet still with a Chinese touch – a perfect combination of both worlds.
